Success Stories – Deepak Paudel, Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology

0

Deepak Paudel has gratuated from HAMK Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology in 2012. Now he works as Post Graduate Researcher (D Sc Student) at Aalto University. In his research, Deepak investigates the methods to evaluate fire-barrier failure probability in Nuclear power plants.

“The things that I like the most regarding the study was the way the theoretical knowledge gained in the class room is directly practiced in the laboratory. For me going to ME engineering classes and doing corresponding practical work in the laboratories was much more joyful than watching movie in the theater.”

“After my high school studies, I was looking for abroad studies. During that particular time, I came to understand that Finnish education system was gaining its popularity around the world. This triggered me to apply to Finland, I had applied for altogether four different institutions in Finland among which HAMK was my First option.

After graduation from HAMK (2012), I studied MSc at Aalto University in the same field (Mechanical Engineering). I was, at the same time, working as a part time test engineer at Fiskars. During my final years of MSc studies, 2014 – 2015 I worked in Switzerland at CERN as a thesis worker. There I had opportunity to meet the most popular scientist and physicist from around the world. Immediately after completing my MSc studies, I started my DSc studies at Aalto.

Now I am working as Post Graduate Researcher (DSc Student) at Aalto University.  My task is to invistigate the methods to evaluate fire-barrier failure probability in Nuclear power plants. The task involves thermo-mechanical simulation of fire-barriers and computational fluid dynamic modelling of fire.

Study at HAMK was exciting experience to me.  I benefited quite a lot from the company of my friends and seniors. The things that I like the most regarding the study was the way the theoretical knowledge gained in the class room is directly practiced in the laboratory. For me going to ME engineering classes and doing corresponding practical work in the laboratories was much more joyful than watching movie in the theater. Beside this, the summer projects for students organized by FUAS was the best learning platform. During all four years of my degree program, I had opportunity to take part in the summer projects either as a student or as a supervisor. This experience was a key for my career growth. I recommend all the new students to take part in FUAS summer projects.”
