The federal government programs Teachers for the Future® and Finnish Teacher Trainer Diploma® (SETEC / MEC) were my passport to live in Finland in 2016 and 2017. The mindset change I had regarding professional teaching was so positive that it motivated me to consider, in mid-2016, the invitation of the Paraíba State Secretariat of Education to participate in a teacher training program creation.
Os programas do governo federal Teachers for the Future® e Finnish Teacher Trainer Diploma® (SETEC/MEC) foram o meu passaporte para morar na Finlândia em 2016 e 2017. A mudança interior que tive em relação à atuação docente foi tão positiva que me motivou a considerar, em meados de 2016, o convite da Secretaria de Estado da Educação da Paraíba para participar da criação de um programa de capacitação para professores.
The challenge was accepted and together with Maaret Viskari and the Global Education team from HAMK we built what would become the Gira Mundo Finland program. The pilot class was formed by 20 state public school teachers from Paraíba (PB), who experienced two months of training at HAMK. The program was improved the following year with the inclusion of TAMK after the contributions of Carita Prokki and her team.
O desafio foi aceito e construímos, em conjunto com Maaret Viskari e a equipe Global Education da HAMK, o que se tornaria o programa Gira Mundo Finlândia. A turma piloto foi formada por 20 professores da rede pública da PB, que vivenciaram 2 meses de capacitação na HAMK. O programa foi aprimorado no ano seguinte com a inclusão da TAMK após as contribuições de Carita Prokki e sua equipe.
Currently, with the support of Jamylle Ouverney-King and Francisco Petrônio de Medeiros (also graduates of MEC programs in Finland and who have accompanied me as coordinators since the beginning) and a team of collaborators, we have entered the fourth year of the Gira Mundo Professores Program. From 2016 to the present, we have selected, prepared and sent to Finland, Israel and Spain (this last one, more recently included) 16 classes with a total of 270 teachers from the PB public state network, involving the partnership of three European universities and two kibbutzim (communities in Israel).
Atualmente, com o suporte de Jamylle Ouverney-King e Francisco Petrônio de Medeiros (também egressos dos programas do MEC na Finlândia e que me acompanham como coordenadores desde o início) e de uma equipe de colaboradores, entramos no quarto ano do Programa Gira Mundo Professores. De 2016 até o momento, selecionamos, preparamos e enviamos para a Finlândia, Israel e Espanha (esta, incluída mais recentemente) 16 turmas com um total de 270 professores da rede pública estadual da PB, envolvendo a parceria de três universidades europeias e dois kibutzim (comunidades em Israel).
Programs, such as Gira Mundo Professores, serve as an example for education managers, but they must not fail to be constantly enhanced, in search of new actions to improve educational quality in Paraíba. This includes new work and coordination teams. If haste is the enemy of perfection (“deep approach to learning takes time”, in the words of Essi Ryymin), I have no doubts when stating that a training program is the great friend of the professional quality of teachers.

Programas como o Gira Mundo Professores servem de exemplo para gestores da área da educação, mas nem por isso devem deixar de ser aprimorados constantemente, em busca de novas ações para a melhoria da qualidade educacional na Paraíba. Isso inclui novas equipes de trabalho e de coordenação. Se a pressa é a inimiga da perfeição (“deep approach to learning takes time”, nas palavras de Essi Ryymin), não tenho dúvidas ao afirmar que a capacitação é a grande amiga da qualidade profissional dos professores.
