Working on sales aroused International Business student Mouhanad’s interest in the business. He moved from United Arab Emirates to Finland to continue his studies. Mouhanad thinks that learning different languages is important part of understanding any cultures better. The studies at HAMK has offered lot for him, for example many international friends and improved his cross-cultural communication skills.
From Dubai to Finland
My name is Mouhanad Mousalam, I am 29 years old, I am Syrian on papers and a global citizen by heart. I started work at the age of 18 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as salesman, my main interest was psychology. I was not really interested in business, but after many years of working in sales and retail industry I came to understand that business and psychology are undeniably interconnected, thus my interest in business has grown. To be able to sell and promote the products and services to many people from different backgrounds and different personalities is not easy and one need to have good communications and social skills, working in Dubai that is a multicultural city helped me obtain such skills. Working as a salesman and promoter for the rest of my life was not the goal, that is when I decided to continue my studies and after an easy research Finland was on top of the list for many reasons.
Language is the key to understanding any culture
I arrived in Tampere-Finland on October 2017, I enrolled for Finnish language courses, since it is an essential asset to have here. Learning the Finnish language does not only eases living in Finland but increases the chances of employability. Although most of the people speak English here as a second or third language after Swedish, Finnish is still important to integrate and feel more at home. In my opinion language is the key to understanding any culture. After completing my language studies, it was time to join the university and luckily, I have a friend that I met in the gym here in Finland who has the same interest as me which is business. He recommended HAMK as one of the best universities to offer such an interesting program and that International Business. Applying to HAMK was simple and the entrance exam was smooth and manageable.
HAMK has offered all what I was looking for
I had many expectations going into HAMK, and it was all exceeded. I was surprised how diverse and vibrant the atmosphere was, lecturers and professors from around the globe are here to pass their knowledge and expertise, and students coming from all over the world to study and gain valuable experiences. Working and studying in such environment is what I was looking for, I managed to build a broader more international network of friends and potential future business partners. My cross-cultural communation skills have significantly improved, as well as my ability to think critically, solve problems, analyze data, and work individually and with international students.
HAMK offered me the skills and expertise I was lacking and connected me to businesses and people I could never reach without the help of HAMK. I am thankful and grateful for this experience; I am still in my second year but the knowledge and the valuable lessons I learned are profound due to the high quality of teaching and technologically advanced system are.

تجربتي في فنلندا و هامك
اسمي مهند ,سوري الجنسية و مواطن عالمي في القلب. بدأت العمل في دبي في سن الثامنة عشر كبائع في محلات البيع بالتجزئة.
علم النفس كان مركز اهتمامي الاساسي و لم اكترث لإدارة الأعمال, و لكن بعد العمل لسنوات عديدة في البيع و التسويق أدركت أن ادارة اللأعمال و علم النفس مترابطين بلا شك,ومن هنا ازداد اهتمامي في إدارة الأعمال.
حتى تمتلك القدرة على بيع و ترويج منتجات و توفير خدمات إلى أناس من بلاد و ثقافات مختلفة ,ليس بالأمر السهل ومن اهم مواصفات هذا العمل ان يتمتع البائع بمهارات اجتماعية عالية والقدرة على التواصل و اقناع العميل, وبسبب عملي في مدينة دبي متعددة الثقافات تمكنت من اكتساب هذه المهارات.
لم يكن هدفي العمل كبائع طيلة حياتي و لا احد طموحاتي, عندها قررت ان أكمل دراستي و بعد بحث قصير وجدت أن فنلندا من أحد أفضل الدول من حيث التعليم و الاهتمام بحقوق الإنسان.
في الشهر العاشر من سنة ألفين و سبعة عشر وصلت إلى وجهتي فنلندا, قمت بالإنضمام إالى دورة تعليم اللغة الفنلندية لأتمكن من التواصل و الإندماج مع المجتمع الفنلنديnو أزيد من فرص العمل لدي.على الرغم من أن الجميع يتكلم الإنجليزية و السويدية كلغة ثانية, تكلم الفنلندي جعل من حياتي أسهل و سمح لي بالإنتماء بشكل أفضلز و برأي أن اللغة هي المفتاح لفهم و تعلم ثقافة المجتمع.
بعد أن أتممت دراسة اللغة الفنلندية حان وقت دخولي إالى الجامعة و تحقيق أحد أهدافي, و لحسن الحظ أن لدي صديق يشاركني نفس الأهداف و اقترح علي الإنضمام إالى هامك التي لإمتلاكها إختصاصات مثيرة للإهتمام و أهمها إدارة الأعمال الدولية.
التقديم و الإنضمام إلى هامك كان في منتهى السلاسة و فحص القبول كان معقولا.
كان لدي توقعات كثيرة قبل دخولي إلى جامعة هامك التى تمكنت من تفوقها جميعا. لقد تفاجأت بالجو المتنوع و المفعم بالحيوية, و تواجد كادر تريسي من مختلف أنحاء العالم, أتو إالى هنا لتمرير خبراتهم و علمهم الثمين. خلال الأيام الأولى في الجامعة تمكنت من التعرف إالى أصدقاء من دول و ثقافات مختلفة, و كان من الرائع تكوين علاقات مع أناس أتو إلى هنا بنفس الأهداف و الطموح ألا و هي اكتساب خبرات و تجارب تمكننا من تطوير قدراتنا و مهاراتنا. العمل و الدراسة في هامك ساعدني على تعزيز و تطوير مهاراتي الإجتماعية بين الثقافات, تعلم التفكير الدقيق و النقدي,حل المشاكل و تحليل البيانات و تعلم القدرة على العمل بشكل انفرادي أو بشكل جماعي.
قامت هامك بتوفير و تقديم المهارات و القدرات و الخبرات التي كنت افتقدها, و قامت بوصلي بشركات و أشخاص محترفين و متخصصين لم أكن قادر بلوغهم لولا مساعدتها. انا ممتن و شكور جدا لهذه التجربة.ما زلت الآن أ في عامي الدراسي الثاني و لكن الخبرات و التجارب التي اكتسبتها لا تقدر بثمن نسبة إلى التعليم العالي الجودة و التقدم التكنولوجي الهائل.
